Manufacturers fight energy “tax” with ad campaign

The National Association of Manufacturers, with support from the National Federation of Independent Business, has launched a multimillion dollar advertisement campaign opposing the energy bill working through Congress and urging the public to contact their senators. At issue is the so-called Waxman-Markey bill, which establishes renewable electricity requirements for utilities and a cap-and-trade system for dealing renewable energy credits. The bill, which passed the House in June and is expected to be picked up by the Senate this fall, also includes provisions to promote carbon-capture technology and a smart-grid energy transmission system.
